London Venue Focus: The British Museum

Discover what went into the Impressive floral event design at the British Museum

For our event florists at Lavender Green Flowers, a recent event at the British Museum was one of the most impressive floral designs the team has created this year. Read on to learn more about event floristry at the British Museum.

Among the event spaces available to hire at the Grade I-listed British Museum is a Norman Foster-designed contemporary events area, two state-of-the-art theatres and a series of smaller rooms. All hold an array of events – from intimate dinners to large-scale gala award shows. Due to the different sizes of The British Museum’s venue spaces, it is extremely flexible when it comes to events and in turn, event floristry.

The modern venue spaces act as blank canvases for events florists to work their magic and creativity. While the floral displays vary greatly from venue to venue at the British Museum, really vibrant flower arrangements work wonders to brighten the spaces with a splash of colour. As Tabitha and her team discovered when crafting the flower displays for an impressive recent event, which took six months of careful planning to produce. The result bowled the guests and client over with its originality and beauty.

Lavender Green Flowers’s florists designed and sketched three options for an event at the British Museum around the concept of an English country garden, which they then worked with the client on developing to meet their requirements and design requests. The team built prototypes of the arrangements before the event, to be approved, before creating the actual designs over two days in our studio in Windsor. Thousands of locally-sourced English flowers were hand-selected for this particular event and unique vases and vessels found at the Paris trade show Maison de Object.

Pre-planning the event floristry took military precision, as the florists only had one hour to install the final design at the British Museum. This included the installation of bespoke LED lights, which were designed and built in collaboration with Wise Productions, the light flow of these were meticulously mapped out too. At the end of the event, all the flowers were donated to care homes and charities, to ensure nothing was wasted.

When creating such a show-stopping floral design, we had to take into consideration restrictions at the British Museum. As Ella Fancett, Events Manager at The British Museum tells us: “We do not permit water in any of the spaces and galleries. This does play a major part of what can be offered but Lavender Green Flowers’s flexibility and creative ideas to ensure the flowers are fresh and lively at every event is second to none.”

“Lavender Green Flowers has worked at the British Museum for many years so are truly experts with navigating around the museum and ensuring all floral design adhere to the museum’s restrictions and rules. We have very tight turnaround times for our events and this can be quite daunting especially for the massive events but Lavender Green never falter and always deliver an outstanding job.”
