Sustainable Event Floristry at Lavender Green Flowers

Lavender Green Flowers has launched a new sustainability and donations initiative, whereby flower arrangements returned from events and weddings are regularly donated to local charities and members of the community close to the florist’s studio in Windsor.

The purpose of this project is to be more sustainable with cut flowers and plants that are being thrown away after weddings and events, when they could be enjoyed by others and brighten up a space. Lavender Green Flower’s events clients are now given the option to elect a local cause to receive their event flowers once they have been returned.

As much of the floral designs as possible is donated after each event, depending on the particular flower variety and conditions they have been in – some last longer than others. The flowers that are donated will last at least another four more days, while potted plants can last much longer if nurtured well.

This summer, the potted plants (kalanchoes) from Royal Ascot went to three different care homes, filling around 100 rooms. Several hundred herbaceous plants from Ascot and Wimbledon Tennis Tournament have been donated, and they will continue to regrow each year once planted outside. Approximately 50k stems were used for Royal Ascot’s event floristry throughout the week, and as Lavender Green Flowers donates on average at least 40% of what comes back, around 40k stems were re-purposed. Flowers recently donated to a local nursery school enjoyed a bouquet class with the kids who took home their flower arrangements to give to their Mums.
