Scenting your wedding

Have you thought about what fragrance you’d like for your wedding?

Scenting your wedding is a growing trend among brides and grooms, particularly since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex famously chose a selection of floral fragrances to scent their wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.  So have you thought about what fragrance you’d like for your wedding?

We all know the power scent has to evoke and instantly transport us back down memory lane, to a special time and place. It’s no surprise therefore that more and more couples are adding ‘wedding fragrance’ to their wedding

list, as it creates a lasting happy memory for years to come.

Creating the right fragrance for a bride and groom is really important to us at Lavender Green Flowers, and something we love advising couples on during their consultation with us. Although it might not always be the first thing a bride thinks of when planning a wedding, we always encourage the couple to tell us their preferred fragrance, as this really influences what flowers we recommend and ensures we capture the right emotion for them.

Smell really sets the tone and adds another layer of personalisation to the day. When choosing wedding flowers, it’s important to think beyond the bouquet and consider the wider fragrance journey that the couple and guests take on the day. It’s important to think about the energy of the smells, as they can easily change the ambiance throughout the day’s events. Couples often want a romantic, calming and softer scent for the ceremony, then a more uplifting and zesty fragrance for the party.

Tuberose, Jasmine, Garden Roses and herbs like Rosemary, Lemon Thyme and Mint are all great choices in creating a memorable fragrance for the special day. However, it’s key to consider the time of year. Summer fragrances are lighter, softer and more floral, and your options for fragrant flowers are plentiful. Winter is about warm, richer and spicier smells. There aren’t so many floral scents available at winter, so you need to be a bit more creative; we always suggest including foliage, berries and herbs.

It’s worth remembering that that not all flowers have a pleasant smell, even though they might appear attractive on the outside. Allium, for example, has a strong onion smell so not what we’d recommend the bride to be carrying up the aisle! It’s paramount that your wedding flowers are the freshest they can be, to ensure the best smell.

Scenting a wedding doesn’t have to stop at the flowers, we can capture a signature scent based on your flower choices and produce bespoke scented candles. The candles, which are made in the UK from soy-based vegan products come in a choice of glassware to go with your wedding table settings. Or you could  give them to guests as favours to remind them of your wedding whenever they burn it.

So, when it comes to planning the big day, don’t overlook your wedding day fragrance. Choosing the right scent will not only elevate it to the next level of elegance and luxury, but brides will be able to relive the memory of that fragrance from their special day for years to come.
