AT HOME WITH LAVENDER GREEN FLOWERS 2022

With lots of us still working from home, we thought we’d once again share some design ideas and tips on how to transform your dining space, just as our design team have done here.

– GEMMA –

First to take on the Challenge was Gemma, our Head of Events. Since joining the team in August last year Gemma’s extensive history in Catering and Luxury Brand Event Production has been conductive to her impressive list of completed events, with an even more impressive, and ever growing, list of exciting future events. She was keen to start this fun project as it gives the whole team a sense of togetherness, we often work together on events, but when those events are in our own home it gives us all a chance to really personalise the collaborative efforts.

Gemma chose to stray from the ‘safe, muted flowers in a vase’ that she would ordinarily have chosen at home, going instead for a spring meadow inspired design that created a full floral display that really brought the table to life.

Why did you choose the flowers and foliage that you did?

“I love spring flowers and feel there is such a wide variety of choice, especially after November and December when the flowers aren’t too exciting. I wanted it to feel like the meadow was growing out of the table and the flowers and foliage used were perfect to create this effect. When speaking to the florists, they suggested I add in some Nerines which isn’t something I would usually go for but I’m so glad I did.”

This design really is the gift that eeps on giving, the Tulips used will continue to grow, relaxing in to a more whimsical position and the Nerines will open proudly to add extra colour and interest to the next few days.

“I love spring flowers and feel there is such a wide variety of choice, especially after November and December when the flowers aren’t too exciting”

– SOFIA –

Next up was Sofia, who has been with Lavender Green for over 5 years. Working across the board on some of our largest events to date, Sofia’s ability to push design boundaries and ensure the clients expectations are exceeded is something that we all truly admire.

What is your favourite element of this design and why?

“I particularly love the Brownie Carnations used in the design as they are not typical flower that Lavender Green would order for events. A lot of our clients hate Carnations and specifically ask not to have them however I think there are some really beautiful colours, especially these. They add a more vibrant tone of brown which complement the Cappuccino Roses perfectly.”

Spring is one of Sofia’s favourite seasons for flowers due to its wide range of choice with everything being unique and so perfectly delicate. She has a love of relaxed, bohemian styles, and so opted for dried elements consisting of Teasels, Gypsophelia and bleached Ruscus, a combination that is increasingly popular for event design.

– CHLOE –

Finally for the Events Team was Chloe. Chloe has been with Lavender Green for just under a year and has fast become a truly valued member of the team. For her first At Home project, shes opted for a fresh yellow colour scheme, incorporating her favourite flowers; Anemones and Ranunculus, and adding textures with Pampas Grasses and Amaranthus.

“I chose this design as I wanted to try a colour scheme I had not done yet to challenge myself, whilst still complementing the aesthetics of the room. I also love floral designs that are styled wild and textured with accompanying smaller bud vases to finish the look. “

What similarities are there with this project to that of a project in a London venue?

“I found that with this project, I had to think of all elements of the process when designing the arrangements to ensure they looked beautiful onsite. For example, how they will be transported, colour scheme of the room, size of the room, size of the vases and arrangement that would be suitable etc. This is similar to an event in a London venue as it is crucial that we consider all factors and restrictions at the design stage whilst t

Chloe worked collaboratively with the Florists Team to ensure that the flowers she was using were not only in season but arrived in with time to allow them to open up and be at their absolute best for the evening she had them at home. She also looked to our Transport Team to help her with the packaging of the design, ensuring that she could get it all home without damaging a single stem.

– AMELIE –

We then saw Amelie take her turn. Amelie is our Senior Wedding Designer and is constantly on high alert for emerging trends. She decided to play with an elegant yet organic theme that we have had lots of couples lean towards recently.

I am a big fan of long tables for weddings and events and wanted to replicate one of my favourite styles in my own home. I love simple, scaled back looks with raw materials”

All of us at Lavender Green pride ourselves on paying specific attention to even the smallest detail. In this case Amelie chose to include wooden pillar candles and the wooden plate to her design, not only tying the whole table together, but also creates a point of interest that compliments the chosen florals without overpowering the design.

Why did you choose the flowers and foliage that you did?

“With this design, I wanted to use seasonal flowers to capture the little pops of colour that encapsulate the beginning of Spring. Using timeless favourites like white Waxflower and mixed Eucalyptus as a ‘base’ allowed my Queen’s Red Hellebores, pink Tulips and white Anemones to really stand out and take centre stage.”

– JADE –

Jade went for a burst of purple to white ombre shades, using Hellebores, Tulips, Ranunculus and Anemones with complimenting foliage’s such as wax flower and Eucalyptus. At this stage of the season, these flowers are at their absolute best and are a firm favourite of all at Lavender Green Flowers.

Why did you choose the flowers and foliage that you did?

“Hellebores are my current favourite flower (it is ever-changing working here!), and it just so happened they were in season for this project. I love the ombre colouring of certain varieties and the delicacy of their petals which contrasted perfectly with the more structured tulips and Ranunculus. I chose the deep burgundy tulips as these were my Grandads favourite flower and I grew up with an abundance of these in the garden. I used a couple of varieties of Eucalyptus as the foliage, as I wanted the overall design to be wild and natural.”

Since working at Lavender Green, Jade has found that working so closely with the floristry team has enhanced her knowledge of seasonal florals immensely. This project really allowed her to show these skills off as her chosen concept was based around nature and the seasons…. And the result is quite spectacular.

What is your favourite element of this design and why?

“My favourite element is actually how all the different aspects of the design come together to form an overall, cohesive look – meaning each element can be appreciated singularly but the overall look is a statement in itself. This is important when designing florals for an event, when both the small details and overall feel come together to create a beautiful impact for guests to enjoy. In this specific design, I like how it builds towards the centre of the table in symmetry and height, as well as colour.”
