Having designed Louise Roe’s wedding flowers in 2016, the team at Lavender Green Flowers were thrilled to work with her again creating some very personal and special Christmas decorations for her home.
Taking the lead from the flowers used in Louise and MacKenzie’s wedding arrangements, which included wax flowers and white stephanotis, our florists put together a beautiful door wreath to remind them of their special day. Louise wanted something traditional and elegant so among the wedding flowers in her Christmas wreath, our florists arranged an abundance of scented Christmas foliage, fir cones and seasonal fruits. While we got to work on the wreath Louise kindly chatted to us about how she’ll be decorating this Christmas.
How have you worked with the florists at Lavender Green Flowers to create these very personal arrangements?
Lavender Green Flowers did the stunning flowers for our wedding and I adore Sue and her team. They take great care and time, not just over the look you want to achieve, but also what flowers, scents and arrangements might mean to you personally. There’s a story behind everything, which I love. Creating some Christmas magic came about as a very authentic idea, and we wanted to incorporate some elements used in the wedding itself, such as wax flowers.
Where do you start when it comes to planning floral decorations for entertaining?
Sometimes I look at Pinterest, or I get inspired by a plate I’ve just bought or napkins I found – it can be anything. Lately I’ve been obsessed with table top pieces from Rachael Cocker and Sarah K.
When it comes to flowers do you like modern or traditional arrangements?
Traditional, the more rustic and natural, the better. That doesn’t mean it can’t be decadent though!
Are there particular colours or types of flowers that you’re consistently drawn to?
I think it varies according to season, right now I adore anything really rich and dark red, burnt orange, purple and deep green. I enjoy discovering new flowers too. I love berries at the moment, and ranunculus!
Do you think about the fragrance of flowers you use?
Yes, I love Jasmine, but also woody scents, such as cedar and vetiver.
Asides from flowers, what sort of decorations do you love to use at Christmas?
Anything a little bit old fashioned: wooden soldiers, dried oranges and cinnamon sticks, red beads, hand painted plates and vases, and anything scalloped – I’m obsessed!
How do you think floral trends have changed recently?
I think you can find anything, anywhere now. Back in the day things were more trend-led, but now with social media, it’s really up to you to get inspired and find your own personal preferences.
