A Textural Haven

Butley Priory

The initial brief for M&D’s three-day celebration at the stunning Butley Priory was simple enough – pink, pink and more pink! Together with the wonderful Senel Besim, we worked with the bride to create a vibrant yet elegant palette with a gradient from soft cream to delicate blush, baby pink to pops of deeper colour. The floral choices were made to match and complement the other shades of pink used throughout the day such as bridesmaid dresses, linen and menus to create a harmonious wedding, and a whole lot of pink!

The welcome party was D’s chance to incorporate his chosen colour – blue! For a relaxed aesthetic, delicate glass bud vases of white florals with mere touches of palest blue adorned the pale blue linen from Rhubarb catering, while tall light blue tapered candles in gold candlesticks added a touch of romance to the evening. It is of course impossible to ignore the Butley Priory mantlepiece which we adorned with a tumbling design of white and green, to which pink was added for the main day.

We have had the pleasure of working in so many beautiful churches around the country and absolutely love designing the flowers that become the backdrop to the photos that live on your mantlepiece forever. The large doorway to St Mary’s in Woodbridge leant itself so naturally to large floral columns bursting with seasonal flowers such as Hydrangea, Peonies, Roses and Delphinium. Inside, we continued the natural English garden feel with growing meadows lining the aisle and leading up to overflowing urns to frame the ceremony. All of the flowers from the church were later moved and re-purposed at the reception venue meaning twice the impact!

M’s love of large, blousy flowers led the design for her bridal bouquet. Focussing around the season’s best – Coral Charm Peonies – we used textural elements such as Scabious, Lisianthus and Asparagus Fern to create movement throughout the bouquet resulting in a stunningly loose design which complemented both the dress and the venue perfectly.

The marquee was a marriage of simplicity and elegance, with twisted Monkey Vine and trails of Soft Ruscus covering the ceiling, while the tables relied on the beauty of the florals themselves, with delicate tapered candles to complement. All designs were moved around for the following day, with the table centres being remade into more modern white hardware, creating a contrast with the main day.
